PAULINA CEREMUŻYŃSKA
A graduate in Medieval Music Performance from the Sorbonne in Paris and in Musicology from the University of Warsaw, Paulina Ceremużyńska specializes in early music. She has honed her vocal technique with Mercedes Hernández and in master classes at the Academia de Música Antigua in Salamanca with Richard Levitt.
The artist began her career as a soloist in the Pressus medieval music ensemble; in 2003 she founded the Alienor medieval music ensemble,
specializing in troubadour and trouvère music performance.
In 2004, she was given a scholarship to the Ramón Piñeiro Centre for the Research in Humanities (Santiago de Compostela, Spain),
to carry out her own programme of transcription and interpretation of the Sharrer Parchment songs (Galician-Portuguese troubadour lyric, ca. 1300). The fruit of her labour was the CD “Cantigas de Amor e Amigo” (ClaveRecords 3015-CD), where she sings as a soloist and directs an ensemble of
Polish and Spanish musicians. This CD brings to the fore the second recording ever on a world scale of the Portuguese King Don Denís’ profane songs. In 2006, researched, sang and directed on the CD-book “E moiro-me d’amor”, devoted to the research and reconstruction of the cantiga de amigo musical style.
In 2013 she was given a scholarship of the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Poland to prepare a new interpretation of Melodies for the Polish Psalter by Renaissance Polish composer Mikołaj Gomółka to the words of the greatest Polish poet of all times, Jan Kochanowski. In 2015 the CD “Audite, Gentes! Psalms of the Golden Age” came out, devoted to that repertoire came out, made in cooperation with lutenist Fernando Reyes.
The same year she participates in a stage directed by Guillemette Laurens, devoted to the Liturgical Play „Ordo Virtutum” by Hildegard von Bingen, where she sings the paper of Anima. In 2016 Paulina Ceremuzynska was the assistant of Mme Laurens at the stage devoted to Cantigas de Santa Maria at the St Bertrand de Comminges Festival. In 2017, at the next St Bertrand de Comminges stage devoted to Monteverdi “L’Incoronazione di Poppea”, she performed the paper of Nerone.
From 2008 she directs her own ancient music ensemble Meendinho, with which she performs on the International Festival Via Stellae (Santiago), and Festival Espazos Sonoros (Spain).
She is also invited by other groups: she sings like soloist with Ensemble Malandança, directed by Francisco Luengo, performing the Lai de Santa María by Ernoul le Vieux on the International Festival of Ancient Music in Gijón, and with Ensemble Ars Longa from Habana, performing cantigas de amigo at the International Festival „Huella de España” (Habana, Cuba).
Currently she is realizing various new programmes, among them „Don Tristán en Hispania” with harpist Manuel Vilas, a different view on the 14th century French lais.
